Chapter Eighteen

Aurora

I’m coming up Ms. Tilly’s steps when I hear a commotion inside. Creeping up the steps I peek in the small living room window. I see four unknown figures. One has his hand stretched out towards Ms. Tilly’s throat, one is holding her arms back, so she can’t move and the other two are almost hidden in the shadows, but I can make out that there are definitely two people standing there.

“Time to die witch.” The one that has a magical hold on her throat says. Ms. Tilly looks up at him with a crooked smile.

“You do your best dear, we will see where that gets you.” she watches him with an amused expression on her face as he tries with all his might to take her life, not knowing that it already belongs to me.

“She won’t die. Why won’t she die?” He yells as he calls on all of his powers to try and kill Ms. Tilly.

Just watching the scene before me has me in a dark place. The same dark place I was in the night I took Tilly’s life, only this time my rage is towards the one’s trying to hurt her, not her. When the second guy that is holding her arms starts to chant a strengthening spell to amplify his buddy’s magic that he is trying to kill Ms. Tilly with, I lose my composure. I can feel my power surging through me like the other night and I can see two glowing blue orbs looking back at me from the reflection in the window.

I focus my attention on the two men near Ms. Tilly. With a flick of my wrist I drop the first one, then the second one, breaking their necks and their hold on Tilly. I see a smile play out across her face. She turns her head to look at the two in the shadows and I follow suit.

“You better run little witches.” She cackles out at them.

I raise my hand, ready to do away with them just as easily as I had the first two when they vanish in a puff of smoke.

With the threat out of the way I race in to check on Tilly. “Are you okay?” I ask coming to a stop at her side.

“I’m fantastic dear. Thank you for helping me.”

“Why didn’t you use your magic on them? You could have held them still and made your getaway.”

She frowns. “I’m afraid my magic died out when I did, child.”

I gasp, “No. I… I preserved you just as you were. You should still have your magic.”

She shakes her head. “No chère. You preserved my body. Not my magic. Once a witch dies their magic dies out as well.”

“That’s not true. I have my Dad’s magic with me right here.” I touch my amulet.

“That’s different little witch. He put his powers there before he died, so they lived on inside of that stone. But if a witch dies without first being able to put her magic somewhere else, it will die with her.
